Kumara Purnima Blog



Kumar Purnima in Odisha is also known as Sharad Purnima. Actually in Odisha, Laxmi Puja begins from Kumara Purnima which falls on the first full moon day of Kartika month. On this auspicious day girls are following the traditional rituals and expect their life partners same like Lord Kartikeya.

Young girls are celebrating this day as glorious festival of Kumar Purnima  in Odisha with Worshipping of Lord Kartikeya (son of Shiva and Parvati), Offering flowers and sweet make food-dishes offerings to the Sun and doing Odisha dance raas -garba.

On this day people is also observed as the birth day of Goddess Lakshmi.


Evening Puja "Chanda Chakata" Rituals


  • Get ready with new dresses.
  • Girls are waiting for the moon and raise the “Chanda chakata” to the moon.
  • Make Prasad yo offer to the Moon (Prasad in the shape of the Moon).
  • Use Khai, Ukhuda, jiggery, sugarcane, banana, Chhena, cottage cheese and talasaja to prepare the prasad for the evening puja.
  • Ritual will be done until the full moon comes out.
